How to choose air blowers and air filters for hydromassage
Share
Choose the blower based on the hydromassage air circuit, the required flow rate and pressure, and the available power supply. Also, identify whether you are looking for the complete machine or just an air filter. Motor power and the appearance of the connections are not enough to confirm the replacement of existing equipment.
Air, water and accessories fulfill different functions
The blower provides air to the system designed to create bubbles. The presentation of the AstralPool SX Pool & Spa Blower precisely describes the routing of air through piping to the outlet points. This distinguishes the blower from the pump that circulates water for filtration or from the jets of a hydraulic installation.
In the catalog, the single-stage blower and the air filter kit belong to this circuit. The kit does not automatically include a blower and does not replace a water filter. Start by indicating which of these parts you need to purchase.
Prepare the air circuit data
- Current model, photograph of the nameplate, and application: spa, bubble benches, or other hydromassage.
- Number and reference of air outlets, depth, and distribution in the installation.
- Pipe diameter, route, and existing accessories.
- Intended usage regime: short periods or prolonged operation.
- Power supply, control panel, and mounting location.
Ask the installer to relate this data to the variant's datasheet. AstralPool documentation for an air outlet shows that there are also specific limits on the distribution component. Do not choose the unit based solely on the number of spa seats: the circuit configuration needs to be known.
Flow rate and pressure must be compared together
Look for the relationship between air flow rate and pressure, with the stated units and conditions. Elmo Rietschle presents these two data points in its side channel blower family. An isolated maximum value does not confirm operation in the circuit you intend to feed.
If a description has a flow rate identified as water in an air unit, request the correct datasheet before sizing. Do not convert by assumption. Also, confirm frequency, motor version, and environmental conditions. A single-stage unit should not be subjected to the values or modes of a two-stage model.
The manufacturers consulted here illustrate reading criteria. Their ranges do not automatically identify the catalog blower manufacturer or establish the compatibility of the chosen version.
Choosing the air filter
For the kit, confirm connection to the blower, accepted cartridge, included accessories, and space for removing the element. Describe the presence of dust in the location and send the machine reference. A similar cartridge or an adapter with a similar diameter does not prove that the set can be assembled correctly.
Ask how to verify the need for cleaning, what the authorized procedures are, and what code to use for replacement. Compare the access to the filter with the actual space available. Do not adopt a wash or chemical product from a pool cartridge for an air filter without express indication.
Installation and control
The assembly must be defined by a qualified professional, according to the blower and spa manual. Confirm positioning, ventilation, prevention of water ingress, supports, and compatibility with the control system. The design must consider the circuit protection accessories provided by the manufacturer.
The existence of a button does not confirm electrical or control compatibility. Indicate whether you use pneumatic, electronic, or another control system and send the references. Electrical work and the selection of protections are the responsibility of the installer; this guide does not provide a connection procedure.
Maintenance and frequent errors
Keep the manual, codes, and configuration. Plan access to the blower and filter, checks, and preparation for periods without use. Abnormal noise or loss of performance should be evaluated before replacing the machine with a more powerful one.
Avoid confusing air and water, ordering only the kit when you need the machine, ignoring the working pressure, or choosing a different power supply. Another common failure is comparing only power and price without planning for control and accessories.
Frequently asked questions
Does a larger blower always create the intended effect?
The choice depends on the pressure, flow rate, and circuit distribution. Ask for a selection justified for the installed outlets.
Can I reuse the current air filter?
Confirm model, connection, and element. Suitability must be verified for the new blower and the condition of the assembly.
What data should I send to request support?
Machine nameplate, photographs, air outlets, circuit, and power supply. Contact Norte Pool to confirm the part and the variant.
Documentation consulted
- AstralPool — SX Pool & Spa Blower operation.
- Elmo Rietschle — flow rate and pressure in side channel blowers.
- AstralPool — air distribution component.
The sources describe their own references. During installation and maintenance, the manual and the datasheet of the acquired variant prevail.
